Choosing A Landscaping Contractor

Tips for selecting the right landscape professional

  • Does the landscaping contractor have adequate Liability and Workers Compensation Insurance? We do and will provide copies if you choose Ground Care Landscaping as your trusted contractor.

Japanese MapleDid the contractor provide a proposal within the time frame stated during the first meeting? Is the proposal professional looking and descriptive enough so that you have a good understanding of what it is you’re buying? (Feel free to contact us if there are any questions, comments or concerns.)

  • Does the contractor have a good reputation? Will they share past customer references with you? Will the company be around if something were to go wrong and need to be repaired?
  • Does the contractor stand behind their work? We will always answer the phone and take the time to understand and resolve any problems should they arise.
  • Make sure you compare apples to apples. Do the bids you have say what materials will be used and the manner of which they will be installed? We always install at least 7 inches of bass material and 1 inch of sand. We always use brick edging to hold pavers tight, make cuts to fit into gaps bigger than 1/2 – 3/4 inch and always sweep polymeric sand in once before compacting and once after compacting to make sure it settles into as many joints as possible. For walls we always include caps cut to fit and glued in place as well as proper drainage in the installation quote. (We do recommend seeing the products in person before choosing and will be happy to look with you if you’ve not already chosen your product.)
  • We excavate a minimum of 10 inches for pavers and interlocking walls. That is beyond a “normal” scope. If excavating 10 inches isn’t adequate we will inform the homeowner of the circumstances, explain the options and potential additional expenses and excavate further if needed once a “change order” has been reviewed and signed by both parties. Taking the time to install a proper base is one of the main reasons we do not get call backs for heaving and settling.
  • Pricing: Figure out why quotes are the amount they are and compare those facts to other quotes in order to find the best overall value.
  • Most importantly, you should feel comfortable and confident with the contractor you choose to hire!
